AOMEI Backupper Standard

......  So the 64 bit version works perfect.    .....

I reviewed the script. It now uses the native Winpe64 for the 64-bit building.
x32/x64, files, drivers and registry are consistent with Aomei PE Builder.
There is just Backupper_Starter.exe added to copy "Aomei Backupper" folder in RAM if the disc is not writable.

I have not tried with a thumb drive. If you can test Mark
AOMEI_Backupper_Standard_v5 plugin is on first post.

I did some tests with the System Disk backup, restore in VMWare.
By changing only the size of the partitions, the system reboots fine.

By reformatting the system and system reserved partition from NTFS to FAT32, The system reboots also well.

But, by Changing in the boot sector, the startup fails here with error code 0xc0000225   

What changes you made on your side to test ? I'll try to do similar tests with other tools but it takes time

Did a test on the 64 bit Win8.1SE and the Backupper work perfectly on the thumb drive and a test drive.  I thought everything was perfect as I tested most my apps.
 I then went to do the script in the 64 bit PE but I was unable to open up Win81SE82_Builder.exe.  It created an error message. 
I then rerun the whole project and the same thing happened again.

So you want to run Winbuilder in PE?
Why?

I was just checking if this program caused any ill effects in the PE Operating System.  This operation worked before the latest script.

But, by Changing in the boot sector, the startup fails here with error code 0xc0000225   

It was not a System Backup but a Disk Backup,
I retested Aomei backupper with the system backup, by changing the size and type of partition and the boot sector. It has restarted well, this time, after the system restore 


I did some testing in Win8pe with a personal selection: Acronis, Aomei and Macrium, PE version, on a Win8 installed: ~10 Gb. Changing the same things before restoration. 
Except a slight problem at startup with Macrium, they all started well

At startup I got the "preparing automatic repair" message. Then it Reboot well

Acronis, 2014 or 2015 have the best result, here in my tests in virtual machine, but they are not free. In free I like the friendliness, simplicity of Aomei.
For TI 2015 desktop version, I personnaly prefer the old interface/version or the PE Version.
I started to update 2aCD plugin by adding 2015 for 64-bit building, for next week

I had asked on their forum to completely remove any expiration checks for the "Freeware version". First tests show however that the amcore.dll check is still there. I'll be doing more testing....

OK, first quick test shows the first few (8?) bytes of amcore.dll change after each use. So it must be some kind of counter. I surely hope this version will not expire like it did before... I did a quick test with setting the clock forward one year, indeed there was a change in the first bytes, but the program still worked. I hope that means that the expiration check is gone, but it needs more testing.
I still hope they will remove the amcore.dll dependancy completely in future versions.

One more thing I think I found out:
In previous tests, I copied the program files (including amcore.dll) from a mounted iso to x:\ ramdisk. This still didn't work, because amcore.dll still had the "read-only" attribute in this case. New tests show that as long as amcore.dll is *not* read-only, everything seems to work.

.... the program still worked. I hope that means that the expiration check is gone, but it needs more testing.

I tested also, with the standard free AmCore.dll registration dll, copied from an installation, it works well here on a read-only medium
With v2.1.0, it works even without the ProgramData key which is created at startup. Only AmCore seems required now.

The starter,  to copy in RAM if the disk is not writable, seems no longer really required.
I put a checkbox, disabled by default, to use it or not, in addition to the standard free AmCore.dll in attachment.

Let me know, sorry for the confusion but Yes, I confirm, it works here with AmCore.dll and the folder in a read only media (so with the readonlyattribute) 
It does not work with the previous version. The ProgramData key was required it is no longer necessary with version 2.1.0

I did notice that BackupRecovery.ini is by default set to AlwaysCheck=1.  It should be set to 0 in my thinking as most people would not want to update their PE ever time Backupper has an update.
I also noticed that with script #6 it does something to the basic Win81SE as previously posted.  I am still using script #4 and tried everything to correct this problem.
I use the new version 2.1.0 in the 64 build and use the 2.0.3 in the 32 build. The speed time for creating a 650 mb thumb drive build is 49 sec. that compares to TeraByte Image for Windows
and Acronis is 47 sec.  I am not able to compare it to Macrium Reflect as it doesn't do thumb drives. With version #4 it takes expanding the wim file and inserting the Backupper files. 
Hopefully if there is something that you want me to test I will give it a try.

Mark, I'm interested in your finding as well. As ChrisR said, please be as clear as possible about which steps you mean.

I was also planning in sharing some more experiences with Aomei, I finally seem to have everything working the way I wanted.
Of course, ChrisR's script is working 100%, sometimes I just like to "play around" with the scripts, just for the sake of learning new things, and trying to understand why something works (or doesn't work).
For Aomei Backupper versions "below" 2.0 (1.6, I believe), I created a minimalistic script, that only neeed to add the drivers during build time (and set the registry settings for it), then the program files could be on a USB, CD, or mounted ISO.
This changed somewhat with versions 2.0 and later, because AmCore.dll was introduced, and there was the mysterious "ProgramData" setting.
I tried to modify my old minimal script to work for 2.0 and later, but I could *not* get it working!! (Very frustrating).
Then, I decided a much better way was to start with ChrisR's script instead, and work "back" to a minimalistic script.
So now I'm glad to say everything works again (32 and 64 bit drivers, 32 and 64 program files, AmCore.dll needed, ProgramData not needed, etc. etc.)
So everything is working OK now. Somewhere in my mind, I'm still not 100% sure why it didn't work before, must be some strange combination of that AmCore file or something, but never mind, as long as it's working, and we have ChrisR as a Backupper script developer, the future seems bright!!

Backupper could almost be portable except for the registry script that need to be added. It only needs the 3 driver files in the x:\windows\system. 
So I am able to use the v4 script and just delete all the files except Backupper_Starter.exe, BackupRecovery.ini.  If you notice the BackupRecovery.ini in
version 4 (History004=ChrisR) is set to 0, but in the latest version 6 it is set to 1.  This is the file that asks if you want to update to a newer version. 
If the file doesn't exist it won't ask to update. In Backupper in regular windows can make a PE image. So in 64 bit or 32 bit wim I just copied the
Backupper folder from the wim file. I delete the files  after WinBuilder finishes making the wim file folder Backupper except  Backupper_Starter.exe, BackupRecovery.ini. 
In Chris's last version I get an error message when trying to run Winbuilder from with in the newly created PE.  So I had to revert back to v4 to solve this problem. 
Also I try to test everything while running in PE just to see if there is any faults.  If you have a script I am willing to test it out.  The Backupper program does many functions
easily and is a great free tool.  Hopefully they keep creating the free model. Also a great thanks to Chris for continually improving the scripts.

Of course, I don't want to distract too much from the main script by ChrisR (which is pretty much perfect, as I've already said), but just "for fun", I'd like to share my "minimized" script with Mark.

I like to put the (64bit) program files in an iso, which is mounted in my PE. Before, amcore.dll had to be on a writable medium, but somehow this limitation is now gone (one of the things that confuses me still, this seems to have a relation to which version of amcore.dll you're using, not sure yet).
So all files can be on a mounted iso, didn't have any problems yet in the last few days.

Your script was a success.  I only used the this part of the script and use the portable apps for the rest of the program.  That worked great, one time build.
Oh as you can see I don't know how to put your script in the code box. I think I got it thanks to Atari800xl.

Clic the Tools buton at the top next to download and in Option tab Enable CodeBox. It is useful for testing.

The plugins are not very far, can you send me the log of backupper v6 to see your problem, It works well here
For BackupRecovery.ini, I do not understand, the line has not changed between v4 and v6

So Mark, you've got Aomei and Acronis working now, nice!
It's possible to use a kind of minimalist script for Acronis, as well, it's even smaller than the Aomei script, let me know if I should post it in the Acronis thread.

Then as a third and last script, I have one for Macrium Reflect Free as well, actually for Macrium backups you don't even need additional scripts (it's fully portable), it's only needed if you want to use the "mount" feature of Macrium.
To round off my backupper tools selection, I use (all portable) Terabyte Image, Drive Snapshot, Paragon HDM and Active Disk Image.
I keep a little notes/ howto file around on how to extract the latest program files for all of these, so when a new version or build arrives, updating the programs is easy (as I said, I put it all in a single iso, easy to maintain, it's around 400 mb now, for all 7 tools, in both 32 and 64 bit.)

I don't see the code box.  It looks like it could be a handy tool. I was going to ask you about Acronis 2015, does it have additional features than the 2014 version? 
I put the 2014 version on my x86 and 2015 on the x64 it seemed to add about 150 megabits.  On thing that I like is that it can do linux partitions. 
I use the PE version for Macrium and have to open the wim to install the root directory folder boot, so the keyboard know the language. I use the portable function on
WinBuilder to put Macrium into the PE.  Both minimum scripts would be great.  Does your Terabyte Image always come up with the trial version 15 second counter? 
Oh Chris wanted to see the log of backupper v6, it shows as if everything is fine.  I only have the error message that I posted in previous posting, so I am little help on
that subject.  I also don't know when I noted the upgrade issue came into effect but I did see the 1 instead of the 0.  It seems as if you have a lot of backup programs
as it must for your work. Thanks for all the help from Atari

Select the code,
Then just above the list of smilies, press the 10th icon (the hash symbol, #)

I will answer your other questions after you made the change, this is just not very comfortable right now.
