The laucher was reviewed for Backupper v2.0.1 with the use of 32 or  64 bit version and the copy in RAM if the disk is not writable, is no longer really required.
It is just an option to use it or not, now.
     For History:
     This plugin have a laucher inside for copying, renaming: LoadDrv, X.exe, vss, X.dll, vsscom, X.exe Following OS and Architecture x86/x64 at runtime.
     With the copy of Aomei Backupper folder in RAM if the drive is not writable (CD/DVD,VM).
     It allows to have the same folder for XP, Win7, Win8 PE and x86,x64 for multi-boot CD/USB.
     On Writable media (USB), there is no copy in RAM.
     It Load Drivers (LoadDrv.exe) and then run Backupper.exe.
     After closing, it deletes the copied folder in RAM, if previously copied, to save space.


FYI, there is another plugin written by Aeolis, Here, deserved for this great Free software .
AOMEI Backupper is user friendly and easy to use with all needed features, it is lightweight and fast and seems very reliable.

v5: It uses now the native Winpe64 for the 64-bit building.
v6: Added a checkbox, to use the starter or not. With v2.0.1, the copy in RAM if the disk is not writable, is no longer really required.

The extracted exe for 2.0.1 has these files in {app}\lang:
en,1.txt
en,2.txt
(I remember noticing this some time ago, I was wondering why there was a "32bit" and a "64bit" language file, when they were both exactly the same. Still, this might be a good decision for "future enhancements" on their part, of course)
Luckily, I could still find the 2.0.1 file for comparison:

(So it looks like they combined it into a single file again, after all).

For the script to work, I change these lines:

line 87: removed "#$c1", so it reads "en.txt" now.
line 93: same.

Of course, it's up to you if you want to change the script in some way.
Maybe concentrate on the new job for now, editing the script manually for 2.0.2 is not too hard for users.

Thank you very much for these great new scripts, Chris. As I said, it's very much appreciated that you took the time to share these with us, even when you're so busy with other things right now. Aomei backupper and partition assistant are great (and free!) tools, so they're a real "selling point" for the SE project! You really found a wonderfully versatile solution for the Backupper problem by copying it to RAM, for me this shows your true genius!

Indeed, they have changed with a single en.txt file.
The plugin is updated in my first post and is compatible with both versions (v2.0.2 and v2.0.1 that is not really useful, now but I preferred to keep the process with If,ExistFile,..en,X.txt)

ChrisR, can you tell me anything about amcore.dll?
I was doing some testing (without your new script) on USB (without copy to ram, wanted to test if usb would work as-is), this would only work if I manually copied over amcore.dll from your attachments. What is this mysterious file?

It is a 1Kb file which is created during the Backupper installation by the program validcheck.exe.
This file is not present when extracting Backupper with innounp, it is why it is in attachment. Not sure of what it does, a key!

 

Thanks!! I do seem to recall seeing it somewhere before, so now I remember where it came from. Maybe I'll even try running the (full) install somewhere again, just to see it magically appear :-)

I added the key to fix the "Trial expiration notice" on read-only Media (CD/DVD) found by Aeolis and written in his plugin.
However, It is not really useful here in this plugin with the starter but it is better to have it. Thanks Aeolis 

Works great.  I forgot all about this gem. I tried it a while back but the PE it produced (used in case restoration in a catastrophe) would not run Truecrypt and all my backups are stored on encrypted partitions. I never pursued making a plugin, so thanks for making it.

I've been using Ghost32 corporate on my own PE for years now.  It's worked great up till now, I just ordered a new laptop with Win 8.1 64 but and I know it will come configured with UEFI which Ghost32 will not restore correctly to.  This backup util will properly back up and restore a UEFI system, so I'm all set.  I even went out and bought the Pro version, even the Partition Assistant too.  It's pretty good stuff and affordable too.

Aomei is still driving me nuts...
I'm using a "minimalist" script to install just the drivers, and 1.6 is working fine with that. The latest versions (2.0+) still use the same drivers, so usually it works, as long as I set the "ProgramData" variable (found by Aeolis).
But then when I think everything's perfect and do more tests, every once in a while it's still complaining about the backup service not starting or something.

Please note, this has nothing to do with your script, it is just a "general" way of saying that I don't completely understand why the 2.0+ versions have that weird "protection" on the free version. There's the ProgramData value (which changes after using the program sometimes), there
s the AmCore.dll file, etc. etc.
Maybe in time I will find out what the secret "ingredient" is... I've asked over at the Aomei forum (to remove the protection on the free version), but don't expect anything from that.
For my own testing, I will keep 1.6 around (of course, there's also Acronis, Terabyte, Macrium, Paragon, Snapshot and Active@ to keep me busy. I just *want* to like Aomei because it's fast and free!).

But *thank you* very much for maintaining your own version of the script, I will certainly try it this weekend, I believe yours is always working, so I will just have to study your version, in the hope of ever reaching only 1% of your genius!!

ChrisR, just tested your latest script, v4. Of course, it runs perfectly. Thanks!!! (Tested with latest Aomei Backupper 2.0.3!)

Even when I boot with another Win8PESE-64 (which only has my own "minimalist" script, which only ads drivers in the build, and leaves the program files to be loaded "portable" from "elsewhere"), running the program files from your newly created folder works perfectly.

So once again, *your* script if perfect, sorry for whining a bit in my last post!!!

I have not noticed the changes in ProgramData value, but I have not used it enough, probably.
Or it works because I'm Lucky. If the plugin works, you can maybe take a look at the source starter for your "minimalist" script.

Hi I think this script is great.  I did notice that when I use Backerupper on my Windows 8 64 bit desktop, that when I try to backup a thumb drive it doesn't let me.  I also tried to do the same with your script and Aeolis in Winbuilder.  I then created a PE from Backerupper and it was able to do this function.  I am trying to find a disk utility as good as Ghost that will do everything, since Ghost is out of date but still works on non secure images.  Hopefully between you two developers you can make it happen.  Thanks again for all your work.

Well Mark, just look at my latest posts (also on MDL), there are actually quite a few alternatives, I make it a bit of a hobby to add them all to a single Win8PESE/8.1SE USB.
I would recommend Acronis 2014, Terabyte Image, DriveSnapshot, Active@ Disk Image, Macrium Reflect and Paragon.

I then created a PE from Backerupper and it was able to do this function.

I'll try to do a test with aomei PE Builder when I have free time.

Their ideas to use WinRE (or ADK) and the host files in their builder is interesting.
However, it is limited now to Windows 7 Only. Users of Windows 8 are now in 8.1 and their Tools does not support Win 8.1.

Has anyone else tried to do a full backup and restore with this product?  I bought the full version and was not able to get a bootable OS to restore from it.  I was using the newest V 2.0.3 on a Win 8.1 64 bit UEFI system and it would backup and then restore but the OS was not bootable.  A Windows repair from the install media would fix it but this is just not right. I had used it's own created PE as well as this script to back it up and restore it.

I also ought Macrium Reflect and used it to backup and restore and it booted fine.

Be sure this AOMEI is making a a restorable image before you trust it with your OS.

I did more testing and building this weekend.  I found that the files that installed on my Windows8 computer from the installer Backupper.exe from AOMEI Backupper in the C:\Program Files (x86)\AOMEI Backupper\Winpe64 will fix the problem in the WinPE built with 64 bit driver from Chris's script project.  I opened the boot.wim files and deleted all files in x:\program files\AOMEI Backupper and copied the files from my C:\Program Files (x86)\AOMEI Backupper\Winpe64.  So the 64 bit version works perfect.     I also just tried to copy the 3 x64 drivers to the x:\windows\system32 and create the x:\program files\AOMEI Backupper with the files from the Winpe64 without Chris's Script with no luck.  Chris's script must change something in the registry of the WinPe, but I am not knowledgeable what the script is doing.  I am really enjoying this new script.  Thanks for your tireless work on the Winbuilder.
