Lancelot, I've downloaded Gena Appetizer again, trying to make a fully basic build. Got my xpsp3 source, starting the build.
Getting this error:
Exec - Failed to find section [Verify] in file: [%BaseDir%\Projects\Gena\Utils\!ScriptManager.script]

Can you please help me? Very short and basic answers are enough, I only need a "jump start", I have most of my "build notes" from last year, so once I get it going again, there shouldn't be much problems.

I'm looking at the Utils\ folder, but can't even find "!Scriptmanager" there. Not on the Gena server, either. Help!?

It turns out I could just turn off "Verify dependencies" in "Basic/PrepPE"...
It (quickly!) created a 56mb iso, put that on usb with Rufus and booted. Hmm, error after XP boot screen. So I thought I had to add SATA drivers, did that, rebooted, same error.
Then I remembered I had Virtual PC 2004 on one of my "museum pieces", and the iso boots fine!
I'm sure the other little problems will be resolved as well, so I'm underway to my "brand new" Gena XP again.
Thanks for giving me that extra little push, Lancelot... Hope I can ask you again (maybe tomorrow).

I'll reboot once more to write down the error...

No need to go to the museum,
VirtualBox and Vmware works nice, I advice Vmware

I advice you to update your VirtualPC,
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Microsoft-Virtual-PC.shtml
--> I advice you put xpmode to a safe place , maybe you need one day ;)
w7
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3702
nt5
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24439

ps: virtualpc not supported on w8

On real hardware,
I advice using .iso boot  ex: map --mem /Gena.ISO (0xFF)  to avoid bsods
Gena\WriteMedia\Tutorial Gena Disk Boot
(ps: as default there is already one of Gena\Drivers\5 Ramdisk selected, if unselected above will naturally bsod ;))
and
find a 2k3sp2 trial around, which has a better nt5 with better harddrive support

On modern pc, after you find your nt5 sata drivers, Gena works fine,
I also added my sata drivers since not exists on Gena

As I mentioned on other topic, no need to feel obliged to work on this,
quick virtualization will be enough to check things when required

Adding Gena and all SE projects (Yomi, Yomi Gena) to one base folder will always be good,
We designed that way from the begining,
even if you don't use Gena, share plugin system will get all Gena plugins ready on SE
only you need to change builder version to build Gena if you don't use 080  82 sabotaged Gena
well I also change from 77 to 82 (vice versa) to test things    (maybe we need an autochange mechanism  )

btw,
what I mean on other topic,
making a small addition to other topic to me enough
(Win7PESE, Win8PESE and Win8.1SE).

(Win7PESE, Win8PESE , Win8.1SE, ... , Gena -- further I only tested on SE).

it is nice if you like to play with Gena on things
but don't feel obliged to, feel free, spend your time on things you like to work on  :great: :great:

See You

Oh Lancelot, that "special" writing style of yours...
I usually have to re-read your messages a couple of times before I know what you're talking about. But of course we love you, where would we be without you...

About the VM's and museum pieces: I was not kidding, I use mostly older hardware with low memory. I have a number of low-spec laptops around me, there's always a couple of them working on things (w7 or w8.1 softare tests, update-sysprep-capture runs, test installs, etc.) That's why I have the opportunity to do all the "imagers" tests as well. For example, I even do W98 tests, I still use unattended w98 setup about once a year (auto postinstall as well), old W98 laptops are still used to control (expensive) check weighing systems on a few manufacturing lines we use. Most of the laptops use Grub4dos multiboot as well, there's usually xp-w7-w8.1 on them (or xp-w8.1-w10preview, etc.).

So with that out of the way, I want to thank you again for all your tips, I had been trying using Grub4dos on the USB as well, I guess I had not found the correct menu.lst entry yet, thanks for the example, I will try it right now.
[EDIT: hmm, getting there, but not working on real hardware yet. Tried your menu.lst, tried 2k3 as source, will go on trying, must some stupid oversight on my side).

About the drivers: I also (quickly) tried integrating the drivers, using the same DPBase and mass storage pack I use normally for XP (same PC's).  I couldn't get it working yet. But I will do a lot more testing this week, I'm on standby duty (watching 10+ monitor screens), so there is time to experiment. I still use XP a lot, also for (offline) production/manufacturing systems, I still make updated install media every month (OnePiece Update and POSReady Addon packs), so I'm familiar with the DP pack as well. (And don't worry, I will only use a clean XPSP3 source for Gena).

Old days,
I also have 200mmx sleeping for emotional reasons, with an unattended 98se (I made) on a cd somewhere (autoit v2 ;))

to boot your current Gena.iso
try changing grub4dos version (maybe the one inside Tutorial package) and be sure you have driver (firadisk-winvblock)..
(also test without enabling dps ;) )

let us know what you miss ;)

after you get Gena.iso boot on real hardware with --mem, remember you can also disable --mem option (low ram cases)

for modern devices with Gena,
use 2k3sp2 source
Gena\Basic\Build\"saydin77 Core" -> Disable "Small Core Build"
remember http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=526.0
also, add latest dps beta package at its forum, see http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=862.0

ps: let us know when you have 2TB> disks ;)

I will ask Galapo to add Nightlies as dps option, and to me as default would be better

Thanks again Lancelot. I will keep on trying.
At least I have it working in VirtualPC, as a temporary solution I just added some folders from my "portable.iso" and "imagers.iso" to "gena.iso", so I could do some quick tests. I like to keep everything portable, to prevent rebuilds etc. As far as imagers go, I think Drive Snapshot and Terabyte Image for Windows would work just fine, even the latest versions.

Well... isn't this special...

Let me just recap the situation, so we can all see the "fun" in this...

- A few weeks ago, I downloaded the Gena "Meal" pack, because I wanted to try it again after some time, in part for testing the imagers and other stuff. Right at step 2 of the build, I got an error, so I thought I should try the "Appetizer" instead, because my thinking was: "A smaller pack will have less things to go wrong".
Well, that assumption was WRONG  :embarrassed: as it turns out now.

So as you have learned from this thread, the small pack didn't immediately work for me either, so we (thanks Lancelot) tried all sort of things.

What I've just tried now: Use the "Meal" pack again and then turn off "Basic\PrepPE\Verify script dependencies" (this is what fixed the first error in the "Appetizer" pack as well). And guess what...

  SUCCESS!!!

So thanks again Lancelot, for not giving up, and Anshad and Lancelot (again) for reminding me how cool the Gena project is. I will now be able to customize the project like I did before, I still have all my notes, so I can add Autohotkey, TCC, command prompt fonts, Office97 lite, XYplorer, etc. etc. (all my favorite stuff). It's pretty easy, because most of it runs straight from an iso.

Even the direct write to USB with Rufus works perfectly. Still, I'm glad you reminded me of the menu.lst syntax for ramdisk loading. It's al good!!

Hi Atari800xl,
I wish you had reported the first time you faced troubles

"A smaller pack will have less things to go wrong".
On Gena case, since Sweat package is only additional plugins this logic won't work

On the other hand, Appetizer package fits this logic better, only it wouldn't fit your case

ps:
when you have full package, You can use PluginManager to change to default settings between Appetizer, Meal, Sweats
very same with all SE projects. If you have good internet, you don't need to download things seperately ...

Since you are very hot user on all these stuff, I strickly advice you to use,
Utils\Update XXXX (Exact and Secure)
on all projects, side by side with Share Plugins, My Scripts (later to be renamed My Plugins),  all projects using same base folder,
spend some time to practice and learn this way of usage,
you will see you will gain a loooooooooooooooot big time compared with the learn time
and always be sure you have latests plugins at hand

I am pretty sure you will thank a lot noticing things on this usage after you spend time using these tools on updates...

--->
Trouble I am aware and understand is, people use conventional way (extract zip to empty folder seperately ....)
To overcome this trouble, we need to write a builder and set up a dynamic distribution server ....
Well, we do not have neither time to learn such things, nor such a team (we are not company), nor such people who already knows and like to work on these...

We did what is in our hands using other way around by providing tools, only it is hard people using things they are not used to

+++
I will update Gena in some hours, which would take your interest , testing before update.... I will inform around

:turtle:

Hi,

I just update some Gena plugins,
20141226 747 (Lancelot)
MMC

20141226 746 (Lancelot)
script.project
DPs-Build_MassStorageDrivers-Nightlies ------- ### New ###
DPs-Build_MassStorageDrivers
Lang_Turkish
AA_Best_Emulation
1 PrepPE
EXEandChangelog

the ones about disk imagers mentioned here http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=1141.msg13231#msg13231

only one thing that would interest you,
Utils\.exe and changelog
have now new buttons..

Read Local and Server Change logs, hopefully ease which updates made after one get/update Gena,
Check Updates button to see you are up to date or not (only checking if you download latest log, further with assumption you download all rest ;))

it was a long Gena day, lots of more works to do ...

See You

:turtle:

I feel you comment too fast before practicing
Take a deep breath, read and test slowly, gain more time  :great:

you are again too fast

Utils\Update XXXX (Exact and Secure)
is the only secure way to check and get updates, this new buttons only checks log ,
which we update on server side by side with every tiny update...
assumption is, when you check there is new version of log, than you fully update your Gena (with whatever way you like),
if you only update log or partial, that is your failure..

on my side, for normal user, buttons are a quick way of checking if there are new plugins on server
you will understand when you start to use them,
and to me for normal user, Utils\Update XXXX (Exact and Secure) is the only way to update

well, get zip distribution to an empty folder, add only EXEandChangelog plugin,
test buttons, test Utils\Update XXXX (Exact and Secure)
  you will understand

OK, just wanted to wrap up this thread and give a big Thank You! to Lancelot, for helping me with Gena.
To sum up:
- Using the "meal" pack solved boot errors (most likely drivers stuff)
- For my personal use, I remove almost all apps, only add Autohotkey, which in turn loads my personal hotkeys/ macros/ tools and mounts my Portable Aps iso's, etc. This way I can use the same iso files for all PE projects. My Gena builder pack is only around 65mb now and builds very fast!
- The nicest new Gena/PE1 "discovery" for me was using Active@ Partition Manager 1. This solved my "Disk Management" issues. The easiest method for me is now: If I need to remove one of my 3 primary partitions (to install a new OS on one of them), I use A@PM1 to create the new partition, then standard disk management to add letter C: (which A@PM refuses to do). Seems to work just fine, I like the fact that only a very compact 3rd party tool (A@PM1, around 4mb) is needed for this.
- I've tested WinNTSetup (latest versions) with this method and it seems to work fine (XP,Vista,W7,W8.1).
- Most new Disk Imager tests will also be done with Gena from now on. I haven't tested them all thoroughly yet, but until now I've had the best results with Drive Snapshot (fully portable), Terabyte Image (same), Active@ Disk Image (some minor issues, but works fine, and is also free!!).
Macrium needs more testing, Aomei doesn't work (yet?), TrueImage doesn't work either (needs a lot more testing).

Thanks Lancelot!

Hi Atari800xl,

Active@ Partition Manager 1
is the continuation of Swiss Knife
Yomi\AppY\HD Tasks\Swiss Knife L

later they decide to use qtp libraries (big size increase), probably to support modern hardwares, continued its way with
Gena\Apps\HD Tasks\Active@ Partition Manager 3
maybe you miss this one since not exists in meal ;)

today I checked, and update
Yomi\Apps\HD Tasks\Active@ Partition Manager 3.5
now it has also backup image option ...

With one of Next version, it will be Gena default, they seem to change a minor thing on 3.5 about vc dependencies,
currently requires
Yomi-Gena\Components\Core\1 System\vcredist Visual C++ Redis Packages
which makes size more big .....
I am sure it will change to better in time...

ps: if you get rid of startup screens, or maybe also shutdown screen, let me know registry lines to add the plugin ;)

*
To me, Active@ Partition Manager 1 is good for old disks (paritioned with nt5) and probably won't harm new disks (partitioned with nt6 ...) , still I advice you to use latest one
Size big,
but to me, its best advantage that is superior over others, it does not use .sys

*
as I wrote, feel free to work on projects you like to
working on Gena is a bit tougher since due to its small size, finding dependencies takes time ....
well image applications would be easy

*
as I wrote a lot around, download all projects to same base folder,
select the plugins you like to
this way you won't miss things

......

:turtle:

Hmm, I thought I wrapped up this topic, but since you offered to continue it for a bit more...

Have you (or anybody else) tried newer Acronis versions with Gena? I found a script from 2011, but I'm not sure if it would work.

So I just have this basic, single, simple question: Who has a working Gena script for 32-bit Acronis True Image versions (2013/2014)?
I would like to play around with it a bit...

Simple answer:
No, I've never liked Acronis
(neither TrueImage not DiskDirector )

Safely ignore it from your comparision tests on Gena

More To any Super Acronis Fun:
current Gena plugins only represents ways to create such plugin having special Acronis things,
1) registering in a special way (interesing reg key ...)
2) integrating its special .sys files in a special way on Gena
  (txtsetup.sif , Gena\Drivers\6 Other\Add/Remove UpperFilters)
3) one should not forget copying shared .sys or .dll files (snapapi.dll) to system32 .....  carelfully
   ( Call,FileCopyBiggerVersion  http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=45.0 )

It is not super hard, but time consuming, requires a Super Acronis Fun to spend time on such thing...

- For my personal use, I remove almost all apps, only add Autohotkey,

I highly support such usage
As you may notice, We do not increase plugin numbers, but focus on quality of projects,
Still Apps plugins are good for new users, to discover availability of some applications on pe

besides, for some special cases, there will be required files, or sometimes some drivers required to be ready at boot time....
for such cases, share with a plugin (BlaBla_Portable) around
it will be easier to get someone new to get thing working,
or like acronis, it will be easier to improve for next version fun  :great:

Happy New Year
 :xmas-beer:

See You
