Except for UUP ISOs

Hi ChrisR,

I am glad you mentioned UUP.  I had been using the recommended TechBench site for source ISO's but starting with 20H2 their ISO's were not only behind in build number but also did not work well at all with Win10XPE.  Your support attempts with Win10XPE dated 2020-11-01 and 2020-11-20 got me over some major issues with my project build using TechBench.  My project build was useable but not without hiccups here and there.  So I switched over to UUP.  With UUP it is a longer process to get to a source ISO but the build versions are more current and personally I have had no problems with my Win10XPE build.  I am sticking with UUP from here on.  I think they are a good alternative to TechBench.

The only other thing I did which in my opinion was only cosmetic was to add the few lines below to the Additions section of the project.  I did this because the winver.exe command did not return the correct OS version number while it did return the correct build number for the ISO being used.  I found the required registry entries on my everyday computer and copied the entries to the Additions section.   I checked Additions then checked Add or Edit Converted PE Registry then clicked on edit and added the following 4 lines after the [Registry] header.

RegWrite,HKLM,0x1,Tmp_Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion,CurrentBuild,19042
RegWrite,HKLM,0x1,Tmp_Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion,CurrentBuildNumber,19042
RegWrite,HKLM,0x1,Tmp_Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion,ReleaseId,20H2
RegWrite,HKLM,0x1,Tmp_Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion,DisplayVersion,20H2

This adds another location in my project that I have to check for accuracy with every rebuild but I am ok with that.

Once again, thank you for your marvelous ongoing support of this project.

again the current Displayed "Winver" build is a fault of MS - as H2 must of just been a poor excuse to a bi-annual update

I agree with you, Jimehc.  But for now I will try to make the best of what MS has dealt us as I attempted with my cosmetic registry entries in the Additions section and my use of UUP site.  Hopefully MS does a better job with future bi-annual updates so that ChisR can continue to reliably maintain Win10XPE else our Win10XPE builds will get stale pretty fast.

For build with 20h2 ISO by WimBuilder2.v2020.10.10, you need to go to [About] page, and click the [Update] button to checkout the latest source code.

slore is referring to a different project to this one, - the WimBuilder2 project, if your query is about that project you would need to post it on the appropriate board.

Sorry for my dumbness, but I'm still not able to include a custom folder with portable apps inside Win10XPE Iso, even following (at my best.......) the "How To Quick Start Guide".
It creates a custom folder inside my G disk
G:\Win10XPE\Custom\x64\AdditionalFiles\Program Files
but nothing is added to final Iso (checked "add your custom folder" as well as  "include files into Iso root").
Could somebody help me telling what's the procedure?

Win 10pro64 here

Thanks in advance

if that the case - then once booted in winpe look inside x:\Programs (ISO Root) or x:\Program Files\ (Custom Folder)

No such folder or files....I think I'll give up, utilities like this should be thought as an help, not a time hungry nightmare.

Maybe you "Should" use the "Default" settings and forget about your "Customization's" until you better understand the Utility..
Because I would doubt you have a portable Application that is not already Integrated into the Utility somehow

We'll miss you... but first you may try copy your custom folder in the Target folder and then rebuild the ISO, only the ISO, running  Create ISO button in Create ISO plugin or use the ad hoc Include Files in ISO Root button.

1. already done.. and it works, but DEFAULTS are not my target
2. what do you think about ventoy?
Thanks....

This is what I did (and as per "How To Quick Start Guide" I loaded some portables inside my "target" folder, being

G:\Win10XPE\Custom\x64\AdditionalFiles\Program Files

but after this I don't find anything inside resulting Iso

Thanks anyway

After putting more files in G:\Win10XPE\Target\...     you must recreate de ISO, you must not run winbuilder again.

G:\Win10XPE\Custom\x64\AdditionalFiles\Program Files
G:\Win10XPE\Target\Program Files

Target folder?

Yes, the almost foolproof way is to put more files in \Win10XPE\Target\ and then rebuild the ISO. Target folder is the source of the ISO.
Please search for the CreateISO entry in the Winbuilder tree. There are buttons for recreate the ISO and for automate the process of putting more files in the root of the ISO.

Ok, i'll try to summarize what's my procedure (following the "How To Quick Start Guide")

1. downloaded winrar_6.00.zip and extratect in the root of my G disk (G:\Win10XPE)
2. source folder: suggested Windows 10 20H1 v10.0.19041.264, ISO mounted on X virtual drive
3. run Win10XPE.exe, untouched (as per extracted)

Result: OK, an ISO working file

Now let's go to CUSTOM "release":
added portable programs in G:\Win10XPE\Custom\x64\AdditionalFiles\Program Files
Checked The "Add Your Custom Folder" Checkbox To Process above Custom Folder

Please note, all the following sh** in "How To Quick Start Guide":

Note: Some Programs May Require Net Framework (Microsoft .Net) or Additional Networking Files (Network
Additions)
Note: Custom jpg Wallpaper Must Be Renamed To > Img0.jpg
Note: Custom mp3 Startup Sound Must be Renamed to > Startup.mp3
Additional Options Interface
Note: Leave "Build Type" Alone
Select Your Options and Return To Main Interface

is OBSOLETE, not conform to pages of current release, somebody should update it

ALL THE REST UNTOUCHED from above first configuration and default extracted win10XPE

Finally
1. Went to Create ISO page
2. run create ISO button

The result is: Nothing changed! (the final ISOremains exactly the same)

Tried also button "create boot.wim and ISO": same final result

The initial default ISO remains unchanged, I have my FIRST PE with the default selections, but NO Custom.

Any idea......?

I'm obviously losing something along the way, and no one knows what to tell me ...

with this method you need to add it manualy in "G:\Win10XPE\Target\Programmes" then "create boot.wim and ISO" as oscar said ...

Checked The "Add Your Custom Folder" Checkbox To Process above Custom Folder
if you added via Build Core Interface you need to Hit the Big Blue Play Button again ....

First of all....Many thanks

Then....when I say nobody knows what to tell me, maybe I was misunderstood: the meaning is that I'm in a place where almost all are skilled developers, while I'm a poor and dumb final user (your user name seems perfect for me, LOL).....and believe me, this is not false modesty, as we say here "I feel like a fish out of water"  :embarrassed:

BTW let's try your suggestions, they finally seem to be within my reach
