Hi there (again)
I managed to access regedit to change the boot drive from local disk to Boot, and changed dosdevices:c to dosdevices:x
it boots correctly, and explorer says the drive is x: (its a extracted wim architecture, made from win7pese's "boot mode: normal)
yet any user account there is (I have administrator and guest) say the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. I went in to control panel and workgroup was selected, which said WORKGROUP. the default value.
Is there somewhere in the registry where i can see what drive it wants and change it to c:
thanks i also tried adding a user account from cmd net user and control panel only net user worked and net user created user i called "testing" also gave me the same error. thanks for the help (in advance)

I feel you need a portable windows, not PE

FAQ http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=834
Q: Where is logon screen?
Q: Logon screen is missing?
..
Q: Can I use these projects as "undamageable" windows kind  ?
Q: How to install SE to hd ?
..

follow above replies, use WinNTSetup (follow link on FAQ ) ..

I think you misunderstand. It shows a login screen it isnt missing, its just i dont know how to delete it and make it go straight to the desktop. if i hide logonui the desktop shows as system, control panel works, so something is not right.

something sound right to me for Win7PESE, Win7PESE designed to logon as system, it is a "Windows PE" ....

when you "remove" PE from Win7PESE,
it is "normal" Windows "try" to behave as a " Windows Normal"
it is "normal" it will try to boot with "c:", and it is normal it will try to use "logon",

you can work a bit more to change bootdrive from "c:" to "x:" , get "logon" operational...
which sounds not right, since you look like drawing circle:
not right word, but trying to explain with word "convert" to get clear:
"Win7PESE" -> "converting 'Windows Normal' to Windows PE "
you are trying to convert  "Win7PESE" to "Windows Normal"

or with other words (more or less)
'Windows Normal' ---Win7PESE---> 'Windows PE' ---You---> 'Windows Normal'

Anyway, to me, it is a nice "research" to have fun,
 have fun
