Having trouble uncompressing script. Get two errors and file unusable. Is there a working compressed file somewhere else?

Thanks

Dear carfan,

I have downloaded the file "AOMEI_Backupper.7z" in the first post and extracted it without problems just now. Which program are you using to extract the file?

Best regards,

Aeolis

Hello folks,

After a while (testing, debugging and improving compatibility with Windows 8.1), I have updated the script to version 6.

Best regards,

Aeolis

Thanks Aeolis, I just did a quick test. When I start AOMEI I get a "Side by side" error, any idea what might cause this? Any file dependencies? I'm testing it on Win8PESE.
Thanks again for all your new scripts! (Haven't tested EASUS todo script yet, I believe I couldn't get the download to work).

Dear Atari800xl,

First, thank you for your kind words. My last working PE build is a Win8PESE and AOMEI Backupper is working fine without any dependencies errors. In my experience this kind of "Side by Side" error is related to missing MS Visual C++ Runtime files. To make sure we're building the same way, please, set your MS Visual C++ Runtime script to "Full" on all runtimes and test again. Please, post your results back.

Best regards,

Aeolis

Thanks Aeolis, missing Visual C++ runtimes was the problem. Sorry, I was in a hurry testing, and forgot I was testing on a custom WB folder.
Aomei is surprisingly good! Fast and compact backups (almost as fast and compact as TrueImage). Macrium is quite a bit slower, and has much bigger backup files. I only did quick filesize/speed tests, but of course the most important factor with backup software is reliabilty. Anybody can say something about reliabilty of Aomei backups? Can it restore OS backups to different primary partitions with different size?

Aeolis, thanks again for this great script, I'll report back here with more tests...

Aeolis, I've done more testing, and it turns out that AOMEI Backupper only needs "Embedded version (8.0-9.0)" (set to "full") in Components\MS Visual C++ Runtime. This saves some 30mb in the final build (well, that is if you don't need the other runtimes for other aps, which is the case for me).
Just wanted to share this. If, for example, you want to build a minimal Win8PESE with only AOMEI backupper, on systems with low RAM, this one seems to be very nice.
I will test AOMEI this week, as I said the backups are fast and small (like Acronis), so if they're reliable as well, this look like a great "find"!!!! I'm always a bit surprised that there isn't more reaction to these threads, I mean: WinPESE8 combined with Acronis 2013/2014 or AOMEI or Macrium surely must be the perfect solution!!!?
Specially when the last two are FREE as well!!
So please, more reactions in 2014, did you try them/ are they reliable, do they work with GPT (can't test that myself at the moment), who has the english Acronis 2014 WinPE.ZIP files, etc. etc.

Aeolis, one more question and I'll shut up. I've studied your AOMEI script, I'm very impressed with the code!! I see you're using a special .exe called "ABPECreator.exe" to filter (and copy?) the extracted AOMEI install files to the right PE builder folders.
Would you mind sharing the source code for this? I know a lot of these tools are written in AutoIt or similar, in that case I would just be able to follow what the program is doing. Alternatively, can you give some short description on what this exe is doing?
(I extracted the exe from the script and started it without params just for fun, and was again impressed: You even made a help screen with explanations!! even when this .exe is never supposed to be started without params).
If not: no problem at all, I was just interested, and wanted to check how the driver files end up in the system folder, etc.
Thanks!

Dear Atari800xl,

The files are copied to the right PE folder by the script itself. Just check the lines below:

Code: [Select]
DirMake,"%Target_prog%\%ProgramFolder%"
DirCopy,"%pFileBox1%Backuper\{app}\*.*","%Target_prog%\%ProgramFolder%"
FileCopy,"%pFileBox1%Backuper\{win}\system32\*.sys","%target_sys%"

The process of extract and filter the installer files is done as follows:

1) innounp, the Inno Setup Unpacker, extracts the files from the AOMEI Backupper installer provided by user;

2) ABPECreator.exe is run with the right command lines options and it reads the install_script.iss file;

2.1) The command lines are PE OS type, PE OS architecture and language (not yet in use, but created it for future usage)

3) ABPECreator.exe filters the extracted files by deleting and renaming the right files;

4) The script copies the files to the PE folders according to the code above.

ABPECreator.exe source code was sent to you by PM.

Best regards,

Aeolis

Thank you Aeolis, this is very kind of you!! I'm "playing around"/ testing a lot of stuff, and your excellent code is very educational for me. Thank you very much, and I'll let you know how I fare.
EDIT: I did a test with a modified C++ Runtimes script, as I mentioned AOMEI only needs Embedded 8.0-9.0, so the big container file is not even needed (not important for most people, but I had some time to kill anyway).
Also, as a test I removed the AOMEI program folder just before making the final iso, and moved it to a different location . This also works, so AOEMEI can also be run "semi-portable". It only needs the 3 tiny driver files, and the .reg settings, of course (like Acronis). Very nice!
Next, I will check out the sourcecode of your ABPECreator tool, thanks again for sharing it, it's nice to know what it does exactly, so there's no "secret stuff" going on... I was really surprised by AOMEI, it looks like a very "clean" tool! (Too bad about that unprofessional first dialog they made: "AOMEI - It is loading...")
I still would like to hear from others what they think of AOMEI...

Dear hfrank16,

Please, tell me, at least, which PE Project you are building.

Added  wtsapi32.dll in the script under [Variables]%DependenciesList% .  Works great now.  Sorry for the delay.  Love you script.

  I put Aomei Backup into the Win8.1SE build by using the Aomei Backup PE Build and extracting the Program Files\Aomei Backup.  I also copied the i386 drivers to windows/system32 folder.  It seems to work only for restoring not backing up.  I am new to PE build so were do I put the script you created?  Hopefully this will solve my problem.

Hello folks,

@hfrank16: I have updated the script to v7 based on your feedback. I did a rewrite of the file dependencies check section.
@Mark: I suggest you put it inside the folder "Projects\Win8.1SE\Apps\HD Tasks\Imaging" in case you are using Win8.1SE Project.

Best regards,

Aeolis

Hey Aeolis,
I just want to say the script seems like it could be great.  I didn't get a complete install on the Win8.1SE.  Is this script made for x86 version?
Seeing that I am new to scripts and can't see how a small script can install a 20 mega-bit file.  It got very close to installing.  I did read
how you have updated the script, but only see one place to download at the start of the thread?

Thank you Aeolis!
Just tested your script in WIN8.1SE x64 build, and it worked like a charm!
Please keep up the good work!

Oliverjia: Welcome to TheOven!!!
Your nickname sounded familiar to me, so I searched for it on MDL and there I found you (we "met" before over there). I saw you tried several different Imaging programs on Win8.1SE, aren't these scripts wonderful!!!
Hope to hear more from you here...
(like I asked elsewhere: Can you test on UEFI/GPT hardware?)
