Anybody tried current version of win8.1 se x86 on x99 motherboards ( Asus rampage V extreme )? When I boot from a USB drive in 2, 3.0 or 3.1 USB ports I find pe boots to the desktop fine. However I see a yellow win8.1 pe warning triangle on the desktop and my USB mouse / keyboard does not work. The same USB stick / hard drive boots fine if attached as a physical drive to a VMWare virtual machine.

Before anyone asks this is built from a clean install of win8.1 pe se source extracted into an empty folder.

Win10 pe se also works fine if booted from the same usb stick / hard drive.

After I posted I remembered I changed a few settings in the bios recently. Went back and reverted to the original settings and win8.1pe se started working.

Turns out the setting in the Boot options 'Above 4G Decoding' to Enabled stops win 8.1 pe se working.
