as the title - I would like the icon font and other fonts to be bigger when I load the PE disc

i have tried via 'additions' merging the script and also by converting the PE registry - i have tried it via editing the target hives from the create CD menu

i have also tried adding the reg script to run at start up - but whilst it asks me to run the script it does not change the font size as it would need me to log out and back in which i cannot do

it may be i am asking for something that cannot be done - in which case fine but at this time i don't know that

the registry file is

am using a standard windowmetrics reg file

thanks for any help

Like Really ???
I even created the custom font size script for you in other forum
and you did not follow that thread
so best if you not even try, if you do not understand

I tried your script and [for me] it did not work - that does not mean it does not work simply I could not get it to

will try with that again - we all try to learn and I appreciate all you have done - I try and fail [mostly] but that is part of learning

to come back on this - understanding is not whats its all about - it helps when things don't work I guess - I did follow the other thread - I used the script you posted and it did not work - I tried it again yesterday and it did not work

that prompts 2 questions -

1 - what am I doing wrong - its easy enough to add the script so its hard to see that I am doing something wrong

or

2 - does the script actually work - to that I have no idea - did you test it or do you not need to as you just know these things

It write registry Values - the Values you posted...
If that is all that is required to change the Font Size..
Then it SHOULD have worked for you......

If it did not work for you - And you verified those registry values while Booted into PE
then clearly something else is required... Thus Disable Default DPI Scaling

If it did not work for you - refer to my first reply...

thanks - the registry values are correct but the script does not work - let me be clear - I am not saying there is anything wrong with it - I have no idea - it simply does not change the font sizes

that may well be a restriction of windows as to chane anything in windowmetrics normally needs a reboot or logging out and back in - unlike many reg changes they will not change just by changing values in the reg - that's been my problem all along - afaik its not possible to log out and back in - the button is there in StartisBack but it does not work

and I can find no way to write the new values into windowmetrics when building the disc - not strictly true - in trying many things I did get it to change but it did not change the font size at bootup

referring to your first post which I have looked at and tried the script - that helps - it does not allow changes to windowmetrics but it does change the DPI and the fonts are slightly bigger at bootup which is a big help

I might not know anything about your software other than what little I have learnt but I do understand this part of the reg and windowmetrics and how things cannot be changed on the fly - hence my question here and at the other place - sorry if it seemed like I had jumped from there to here - I did not realise you were at both places

what I have is now much better than I started with so for that thanks - it looks as though I am simply asking for something windows will not allow

Writing the values during the build - should do away with the need for a reboot....
If the values are already written and verified in booted PE - then there is more to the process then JUST writing registry values...
The process may require system files or have other dependencies - which would require further development

theres certainly something odd I grant you - you know the project and I am sure your script should work but it does not

I overwrote the files to allow 3rd party themes to work as I wondered if that was the problem - I do that in the initial install and add a 3rd party theme and that works perfectly - that in someways confuses the issue as normally that needs a reboot or log out but the build works perfectly without that

you [or is that] the software provides a number of ways to add or change the registry - i think in each case i am doing it correctly but non of them work with the font change

there are 3 or 4 other instances of windowmetrics in the registry - its not normally necessary to change any of those to achieve a font change but maybe it is here - something i am going to look at later

We use either a Registry File Import Method or the RegWrite Method..

We write or import the registry values during the build - so a reboot is not required to Reset the registry changes...

Again use regshot2 and compare registry changes while in PE

ok - lets take this to a conclusion [maybe]

heres part of one line from your script - its not quite as you posted it - I changed the font size

RegWrite,HKLM,0x3,"Tmp_Default\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics",IconFont,ef

that if run from a reg file will change the Icon font size - but for it to work windows would have to be restarted or the user log out and back in

the value in windows as installed is

"IconFont"=hex:f4

so after building the PE disc with the font change script and looking at the registry I see

"IconFont"=hex:f4

your script looks to change the value from f4 to ef but as is shown in the last set of values it does not change

its entirely possible I am doing something wrong but I think not

other reg changes happen on the fly - I have no idea why these dont

I see ef in your posted settings

"IconFont"=hex:ef,ff,ff,ff,

so in PE you should see ef

correct except in PE you see f4

at a sort of tangent but to prove I am not doing something completely stupid I looked for something else that I could change

the taskbar loads as standard with large icons - to make them small there a registry key so I added that and it worked perfectly

so I have to conclude that changing font sizes in this or any other way will nor work - that might be a bit negative - lets just say it would seem as though it does not work

writing the changed values had no effect in my test
the registry values remain the same

you are a man of few words and sometimes I am not sure I understand but it seems we agree and it does not work

the DPI thing helps so thanks for that
