I had the version 008 of the Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server v11.0.17438 script working well until sometime before Christmas 2012.

I updated lots of Win7PE scripts from the server and I noticed a lot of issues with drivers and general reliability when booting in anything other than VirtualBox.

I have sorted out the issues driver wise and suddenly I discover that Acronis B&R no longer loads.

This is the error code:
Quote

I found this on the Acronis Forum:-
Quote
There are 2 reasons for this error message.
The Acronis Managed Machine Service is either:

1. Present, but not starting.
2. Not installed.

I think that some of the Win7PE scripts I updated from the W7pese.cwcodes.net Server have changed something that B&R is dependent on.

I am using the MMC #25 script and have tried a build with an older version MMC #21 but nothing is noticed.

Has any user of Acronis B&R 11 Server, using this script in Win7PE and found a similar problem..?

BobxT

I don't have Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server, nor the script.
and I do not really see in recent changes which prevents it to run currently.
There has been no recent change in the core or in drivers loading

For info, Acronis true image home 2012 works normally here, I do not know the differences with B&R 11 Server.
May be share the script to have an additional chance to get an answer

Hi ChrisR,

I will post the script tomorrow as I am currently running another build right now.

Since I first posted of my problem with Acronis B&R 11 Server, I have discovered a few things of interest.

1. I restored a backup of the entire Win7PEse folder from 28 September 2012. Acronis B&R worked.

2. If I updated Win7PEse from the w7pese.cwcodes.net on line server, the build will complete but Acronis B&R throws up the same error message.

3. I downloaded a fresh copy of the Win7PE_SE  Complete  (Win7PE_SE_2013-02-13.zip) and copy the Acronis script which was working in the 28 Sep 2012 folder, into the Projects folder under the 2013-02-13 Winbuilder. This build also completes and again Acronis B&R produces the error.

4. I have a 2 other minor cosmetic script made by Lancelot about a year and a half ago that also no longer work in the newer or updated build. Yet they also work in the restored backup Win7PEse from 28 Sep 2012.

I will post the Acronis B&R script soon.

Regards,
BobxT

Hi BobxT

I have Acronis True Image 2013 in my build and it works fine for me. May be enabling VSS solves your problem. Try a new build with VSS first

Looking at the dates, maybe an other track, but the log should talk in this case!
cAPI has been replaced by the great Macro Library (ML) in december.

Do you have in your script the obsolete and useless reg_add command, no longer used.
If it is the case, See: http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=470.msg7085#msg7085

Hi ChrisR,

Yes. The reg_add commands are in all the scripts that are not working. In fact under \APPS I have 42 such scripts.
But as far as I know, only three have been proven not to be working.

BUT... In the downloaded COMPLETE Win7PE_SE_2013-02-13.zip there are 15 also.. Why haven't those been replaced if reg_add is so bad..?

After looking at the post you suggested, I am even more confused. The conversion table does not mention Hive_Load,Default for example, which is in one of the other smaller cosmetic scripts.

The topic also mentions RegCPE but no download link is evident from that topic either. I notice RegCPE is included in Win7PEse but it is not clear to me as to how I access it. There is also RegCPE (Reg Converter PE)  http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=106.0 but it does not contain a download link from RegCPE either.

Can you please show me a tutorial if one exists on how to do such a conversion or provide a download link to this RegCPE please..?

Regards,
BobxT (absolutely confused.)

It's been more than 1 year that Reg_Add has been completely removed from the project. So no worries in the project which gained in time of building.
Reg_Add was built long ago with certainly good intention behind, but unfortunately not implemented. It was keeping since just for backwards compatibility.
Reg_Add does not bring anything, really, just a waste of time. It was necessary to get rid of him one day.

The conversion table does not mention Hive_Load,Default for example, which is in one of the other smaller cosmetic scripts.
Hive_Load,Default --> RegHiveLoad,Tmp_Default,%RegDefault%
Same remark for Hive_Load function, called a macro just to convert Hive_Load,Default to RegHiveLoad,Tmp_Default,%RegDefault%, no real interest.
I understand that it is a little hard to digest, but once done, only benefits.

The topic also mentions RegCPE but no download link is evident from that topic either.
RegCPE plugin is in Util folder, just click the Launch bouton to open the apps.

If you block or you need help, the best is to share the script

There is also RegCPE (Reg Converter PE)  http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=106.0 but it does not contain a download link from RegCPE either.

It is attached to the first post of that topic. The link should be working OK.

Hi ALL,

Thanks for the suggestions and help.  I can report that I have Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server v11.0.17438 - Working at last.  I should state that VSS is already enabled and is not the problem. (I missed replying to anshad, sorry.)

My method was not entirely "kosher" and is a work-around for me.  My skills at scripting is not great nor up to the standards of you guys, so this is what I noticed and eventually did...

Since the version of my Win7pe_se build prior to the Macro Library update worked and I am using the same settings within the current up to date build, I did the following workaround:-

1. Booted MY Sep28 2012 version of Win7pe_se.iso in VirtualBox.

2. Exported the Acronis registry entries under HKLM.

3. In the current Win7pe_se, I converted the reg file into a basic script (zABRcorrection.script).

4. Attempts made to update the Acronis script with copying and pasting from zABRcorrection.script.

5. While the Acronis script was improved and the program interface was now fully up and running and is much improved, I now have a different error.

6. ALL my further attempts to fix the Acronis script failed.

7. I realised the problem scripting was now not with the reg_add to RegWrite conversion, but with the other scripting. Probably "IF" statements and the like.  However, I noticed that all the required files were being copied and included in the project correctly.

8. So I now have two scripts running. The now hacked/modified Acronis B&R 11 Server script followed by the script exported from the earlier Win7pe_se.iso.

The first script copies all files into the project and the second which follows immediately afterwards, updates and corrects for the needed registry entries.

It WORKS.! I have tested on a real computer, imaging and restoring..!

I can post both scripts if you want, but would need advice on whether to include Acronis files or not and I would have to remove the serial numbers of course. Please advise.

Regards,
BobxT

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 for Win7PE, Win8PESE & Win8.1SE.  Wanted to
continue discussion of this program that I use on my computer for backup.
It gives me universal restore features and a leader in the industry. This is the
script that I use.

Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.7

PE Files are taken out installer setup programs
11.5 zip files http://pc.cd/wSWctalK
11.7 zip files http://pc.cd/5SWctalK

Use these files if using in standalone, but the plugin would be limited.
It works better if you have installed the program on the host computer.
