Required to Log in to Browse Forum?

Hi all,

I just attempted to view the forum and was forced to log in to do so. Is this a temporary or permanent measure? I only noticed it for the first time today.

Just curious as I often use other computers (e.g. on my lunch break at work) where it is not feasible to log on - especially when all I want to do is browse the forum rather than post.

Good to hear from you and thanks for reporting.

I haven't changed any settings, so I can definitely say that this is unintentional.

What is confusing is that from where I am I can view the forum without having to log in. I'm only logging in now so that I can reply to you - I could read your post without having to do so.

My question is: are others having this problem? What does the page look like when you first open it?

It was login screen:

with a message at top (over email box) saying only members can view topic (at this point all http://theoven.org )

Message I guess was this (or mostly look like this) (I did not take picture)

I also had the same login message yesterday and couldn't view any board without logging in

But today it is all working fine again and I can browse all boards without having to login - just logged into post this message

Thanks for the details. The issue popped up during a the period in my timezone when I am sleeping.

It's a bit confusing why it happened. There was a lot of use yesterday. Perhaps there is a limit on how many "guest" connections can be open? I'll try to find out if there is.

Ok, I've found that the number of guests is currently set to 100. There was a lot of bots that pushed it too high and forced users to log in.

I can put this number higher if this continues to be an issue.

Ok, I've found that the number of guests is currently set to 100.

I just see 75 Guests at the moment.

Yes same here, this happens quite often lately.

This happens once in a week, since a month.

I increased the limit to 200 guests.

I guess I haven't encountered the issue because in my timezone when I am awake a lot of the world is sleeping.
