Hi all!

I hope someone can tell me what I am doing wrong here. I created a new bootable USB stick with Windows 7 x86 with SP1. Along with that I also added Parted Magic Linux and Hirens Boot CD to it.
For the rest I didn't change or touch anything, however after booting to Windows 7 I am experiencing the following problem:

MountPEmedia.exe (system error)
The program can't start bla bla bla api-ms-win-downlevel-user32-l1-1-0.dll is missing bla bla bla.

This pops up a few times and after I click on "Ok" or click it away (can't remember) it does show the Windows desktop. However no applications, device manager, internet, etc.
Also reboot and shutdown doesn't work. It only works when you press CTRL-ALT-DEL and get that other screen, from there you can reboot or shutdown without issues.

Ofcourse I searched before I started posting and found this "old" thread: http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=713.0
But I don't understand on how to solve this.

FYI: the other tools on the USB, like Parted Magic Linux and Hirens Boot CD work without issues.

So can this be solved? I used an ISO of Windows 7 x86 with SP1 which I still had.
I tried to download a new ISO from msft.digitalrivercontent.net, but it seems Microsoft removed or changed it? :|

Thank you in advance for your answers.

topic says, we can not support all sources ms updates,
we do not have such free time..
There is "List of ..." button on all SE projects to indicate which sources supported..

yes links are death,
check iso name from "List of ..." button,
I guess you can still download directly from ms ?
    or from internet

Damn... I am sorry, really missed that list. Just noticed it now. :|

Yeah MS sucks because of that. I wasn't going to do anything illegal, because I just use my own .iso normally which I created ages ago.
But apparently MS is becoming less useful by the day.

Anyways...
...I did manage to find the X17-59183 version. It's downloading slow (6 MB/s), but still. I checked the list and it's in there.
So this version should work right? And I won't get those error messages, right?

Just to be right; I extract the files from the X17-59183 and point Win7PE SE 'Source Directory' to this location, right?
It will automatically rebuild/replace my current version on the USB?

Thank you once again.

Okay great. If it still doesn't work, for any reason, I will try to find that other one you mentioned. :)

Sorry once again for noticing that list a bit late. The reason for this, is that I first used a different tool (Winbuilder or something) to create a bootable USB stick with Windows, but that didn't work, so wasted hours. And now I was rushing things. :P

But yours works way easier, as far as I can tell. :)

I will report back anyways, if it works or not. :)

Ooooow... :S

I will guess I will run it again then. :)
Anyways, I just tested it and it was working now correctly. Only received a small issue Opera; it does work, but get an error message about d3d8thk.dll (prolly directx related.
But that doesn't matter to be honest, at least it's working now.

Anyways, I am now redoing it again with the Update you mentioned. Already downloading stuff as we speak. :)

Thank you so far. Highly appreciated.

Okay, did the update (everything seems fine).

I also selected to install DirectX this time, probably missed it previously, thats why I probably got the error when opening Opera. :)
It's working great now and I will check out the tutorials you created. :D

I think the only thing I will currently need to add are those Intel RAID drivers and stuff, but that's something for later. :)

Thank you once again for the provided help.

Yeah, I probably forgot to install DirectX previously.

By the way; I ran that update function you mentioned. I only need to do this once in a while, right?

Yeah, I actually started looking right now at those driver packs. Added 4 different driver packs to the 'DriverPacks_x86'-folder and checked it.

Hope this is the correct way. :)

One more / final question in regards to those driverpacks installation.

There is an option called: "Load drivers at startup".
Does this mean it will automatically install the needed drivers from the driverpacks, depending on which computer the USB stick is booted from?

I understand it will take up more space and will take longer to load, but if I understand this correctly, it will pre-load the needed drivers straight away?
Maybe I misunderstood this, but I was wondering about this, because I do have sufficient space left on the USB stick. :)

Yes - that means it will load the needed drivers at startup - if present..
