I'm having some issues with Hirens and would like to switch to the latest PE version for my resque environment.

I have (for now :)) two questions:
 - Why are there 2 Winbuilder*.exe files (one of them has a 2 in them), what are the differences between them?
 - What should I use as a source? I have a ISO of Windows 8.1, one with Update 1 integrated and you can also download ISO's which have 'all' updates included, would that matter for WinPE? I can imagine that when you normally install Windows 8.1, after basic installation the Update 1 and newer updates get applied, this way Winbuilder would not have the updated files...

The "80" version is for older projects. You can use the "82" version for 8.1SE.

You should always use standard Microsoft isos, without modifications. Original 8.1, 8.1u (april 2014) 8.1u (december 2014) are all tested and working fine.

Let us know how your first "build" goes. Try an unmodified build first!

 Chris nicely put "List of Official ...." button ,


further you are free to use ( test ) any source,
 and it will be nice sharing your experience on such sources around here on a topic ( like Atari800xl  ),
 if happens maybe with things you figure out for fixes when required (share all),
  but keep in mind we can not support all sources officially,
   we don't have time for such thing (we have normal life jobs, family, kids ..) ,
    we are only a bunch of people sharing our hobby with free community.

I did search on the forum, but why I didn't find Q1 myself I don't know :)

I have successfully build a working USB stick twice now, so very happy!

Now comes the tweaking... I still have lots of questions, but will first play some more.

PS. I now use 9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_ENTERPRISE_EVAL_EN-US-IR3_CENA_X64FREE_EN-US_DV9 wich is downloaded today. Is this the latest (december edition)?

I would think that since directly from MS, it would be the latest.
And would guess that Win81SE82_Builder.exe uses only a small subset of the files in these ISO.
And thus -- with respect to the files used -- the evaluation version
9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_ENTERPRISE_EVAL_EN-US-IR3_CENA_X64FREE_EN-US_DV9
would be equivalent to other December editions.
Could the pros here confirm this?

Some more questions based on the update of the 25th of december:

I can't get Rufus to boot my ISO, the ISO does boot in VMware. When I use one of the two copy to USB options it also works, but would like to use Rufus to copy my ISO as the ISO has the option to 'hit any key to boot'. I don't want Grub4Dos and all of it's features.
PS. There is a new version of Rufus, I tried both.

I can't get portable Chrome to work (using PortableApps.com Platform). Nothing happends... any thoughts on this? I can start all sorts of other portable apps, even Photoshop CC Portable.
