For some reason, when I build my USB stick, using Copy to USB-Device, the CdUsb.Y file ends up being empty and zero bytes in size.  That leads to getting a yellow triangle warning when I boot the stick and the message telling me that CdUsb.Y or the ISO isn't found.

I'm pretty new to this process, so clearly I'm doing something wrong, but the odd thing is that the first few times I built a USB drive, it worked fine, and now I'm getting the error.

Where should I look to find the problem?

Thanks!

cdusb.y is a marker file, it has no "content", it's just there so it can be searched for on boot. (When the system finds it, the drive it is found on is renamed "Y:").

So your conclusion "...that leads to a yellow triangle" is not correct.

Not sure what else is going wrong in your case, though... Will think about it.

Hi brundleflyguy,

What I do to put the iso to a usb stick is use the Windows 7 USB DVD Download tool.  It will make an exact copy of the iso on the usb.
In the script Create Iso uncheck the box Add BootFix.bin (press any key to boot for 'Standard' or 'Auto' Boot Manager)
You can also use the Easy BCD program to boot from an Iso.  Hopefully some of this helps.

Ok, like I said, I'm a newbie at this, so that was my guess as to the cause.  I'm going to try playing with some more builds and see what I get.

I like the ability to put multiple ISOs and floppy images on one stick.  I've tried Easy2Boot, and that works well for this, but I prefer the booting options when I create a USB stick in Win7PESE.

As previously said by Atari, CdUsb.Y is a flag file without Content.
At startup, it is used to identify the CD/USB drive and remount it on Y drive.
To create shortcuts or start a program of that drive...

If the drive is not recognized at startup, Remounted on Y or not, shortcuts can not be created.
And that, regardless of the tools used to create the USB stick/disk.
The yellow warning triangle sortcuts on desktop is here to inform of this anomaly.

I have no comment with CD/DVD by cons there are some worries with some hardwares and USB3 disk.
It seems to be related to drivers for those who have resolved the problem (eg: Surface Pro, Dell Venue Tablets http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=1077.0) or Bios setting.
You can try perhaps with a USB2 stick.
Or try to find drivers manufacturer if they do not use default microsoft drivers and add them with driver integration plugin.

Yeah, this problem seems to be related to computer configuration, because the same stick will work fine in another computer.
