Hello,

during the past week I've been thinkering with some windows live environments (Win7PE, MakePE3, BartPE) for a client of mine who needs a custom build. After some reading here and there I've been able to customize Win7PE and managed to build and run successfully on a usb stick.  :w00t:

Now they want me to make it print.
I did my search around and found some topics on another forum about Win7PE (I don't know if I'm allowed to post links so I'll refrain) on adding a script for print support that didn't work (at least for me).

I even tried BartPE as it seems that back in 2005 they managed to get it printing but unfortunately it was only for LPT printers.

Do you guys know of any live windows capable of printing? I'm posting in Win7PE section as I've already done most of my job on this and would be the perfect solution.

Thanks!

Hi

Printing from a WinPE is the last thing someone wanted ( in my personal opinion ). Would you please explain the exact purpose of this ?.

sure, they use diskless netbooks that are not connected to a network, so they boot from usb stick, and work with a portable office, hence the need to print from there

I agree with anshad, making PE print is like making your dog meow... Sure it can be done, but you're embarassing the poor dog.

Printing to PDF I could see (eg. when you need output from a particular program under PE, and "printing" gives you the best output). Not sure if the regular PDF printers work...

I never read any EULA from any software, but you surely do something wrong here

The better way would be a Windows 8 to go system.

jfx   Well, libreoffice portable is free stuff so the only concern may arise from win7pe or printer driver stuff itself,
but then again we should all be worried about that!

I'm having a look at Windows8 to go, but I'm afraid it requires an UEFI enabled machine

Of course I have the last option of a linux pendrive, but then the fight would move from technical area to *client* side :D

 :great: thank you guys

Hi

As JFX suggested, Win8ToGo is the best option here. Also Wimb ( author of "MakePE3" ) is currently developing a project to boot miniature version of Win7/Win8 from USB which is said to be support printing. You may also take a look at that.

Gena have
Gena\Components\Core\1 System\"Printer Support"
which have VirtualPDF embedded inside,

since printer support available with VirtualPDF, than probably one can get normal printer work too,
if someone interested on nt5x for above special case (libre on pe for diskless netbook)
ps: enable fbwf to get tests easier

Good luck
:turtle:
