Hi,

Next issue, no NIC is being detected in VirtualBox. I guess this could just be a VirtualBox issue, although how to tell?

VirtualBox has been selected automatically by VirtualTest. I would prefer not to burn an ISO until I have things working in a virtual environment although I'm not too fussed about which virtual environment I use for testing.

I'm using PENetwork.

I thought drivers might have been the issue so I have enabled Driver Integration and ticked Load Drivers at Startup. I have downloaded and extracted the x86 drivers from DriverPacks for LAN, WLAN, Chipset and Mass Storage.

Cheers

It's a VirtualBox issue.

If there is an easy fix to adding a VBox network driver then that would be convenient from a testing perspective, but if not, it's not a big deal to use a different virtual environment.

The issue seems to be that in VBox, PENetwork decides that a VMware Accelerated AMD PC Net Adapter is the correct driver, but then that driver doesn't load properly.

So the problem is that the wrong driver is being selected.

Would be nice if I can fix this, but not crucial.

Hi

For the record this behaviour seems to be a known issue with VirtualBox.

Yes I am aware about this VirtualBox thing,

network card detected and installed, but no ip no internet...

They again change something ;)

Let us know if you figure out how to overcome this

Hi

You can change the NIC emulation on a VirtualBox VM to "Intel Pro 100/M" adapter. Then Ethernet card will be  detected and working on "Win7PE_SE" without the need to add any special drivers.

Hi VeeDub,

refreshing my previous post,
with default Win7PE_SE build, here VirtualTest Virtualbox plugin nicely connects to internet as anshad reported.

Hi anshad,

Gena with VirtualTest  Virtualbox plugin can not connect ;) settings same as yours,
that is the reason I mixed ......
penetwork seem to detect network card as Intel ... but can not connect - can not get ip
let me know if you figure out

Just an update about Gena,

this is same problem also mentioned before here
http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=1033.0

Chris update at reply 6 do not solve this trouble,
also testing with PENetwork 056 same result

056 and 0.58.2 give this error

something, I've always suspect from virtualbox,
and maybe an update required at VirtualTest\VirtualBox.......
  currently no idea....

Hi Lancelot

I just did a network test with my Gena build with VirtualBox and it seems to work okay on my side. I double checked with an unmodified default build with default scripts selected ( no extra drivers are selected for integration other than the default VMWare/VirtualBox net script  ). The builder created  a test VM named "Gena_Box" itself and started it automatically. "PENetwork" seems to recognize the adapter and assign an IP without issues.

Hi anshad,

long story to short:
Gena works ok, both new (v11) and previous penetwork plugin (new works better for different settings)
(previous penetwork plugin, changing setting 0.56 or adding  0.58.2 was causing trouble , and .... )
adding 0.58.2 you can reproduce by reply 6 Chris update (v10) http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=1033.msg12284#msg12284

Win7PE SE (better say PEnetwork SE v42) ,
 with default settings (0.58.2 selected)
adding drivers at penetwork plugin via %GlobalTemplates%\PENetwork_drivers_x86 may (highly probably) cause trouble
(ex: dps lan , which I guess includes vbox drivers ...)
not tested, but it is easy to fix when Chris comes around (already informed  :great::thumbsup:

Hi anshad,

also, when testing on Gena,
I use default Basic plugins + "only things being tested and required" + CreateISO + Emulator

It is faster, smaller, easier to test that way  :great:

:turtle:

edit: to test after changing things, I use Basic\Xerox\BackupRestore Basic\ Restore This point,
and further green play things ;)

Hi Lancelot

So if i understand correctly, PENetwork 0.58 B8 doesn't have the bug which breaks inf files ?.

Usually i don't integrate drivers at build time ( install drivers on the fly when needed - thanks to DIPE). In that case, can i enable "infcachebuild" ? ( is there any benefit in doing so ).

I don't think there is benefit ,
Only gaining few KB with potential trouble on 3rd party drivers .... vortex above post verifies ...

edit: I mixed, here is correction:

I am very sick about this reproducing troubles, that is the reason I keep disabling it.

I don't think there will be trouble when you enable it with updated penetwork plugin
Still keep in mind to enable it if you have future trouble since,
it mainly removed copy del rename lines
which maybe important when working with some drivers or features other than penetwork , mass storage .....

Shortly:
Well, it is ok without it, and everybody happy and safe
Option is there for anyone to use and feedback

edit:
maybe I should revert to enable as default, currently I am not sure,
it is happening once couple of years, hard to remember & catch,
if one can make a corruption detection (some usual .inf files and on infcache.1 )
it is safer to enable this option, since we will be alerted when something again cause corruption
