MountStorPE

Assigns Drive letters

Quite useful on PE when you plugin new devices, especially hotplug hd devices and others, also I like most assigning hidden partitions

Having Parameter support,
v1.1.3.8
-h   = (hide)    hides output window and tray icon. Automatic mode is not possible.
-ng  = (no Gui)  hides output window.
-a   = (auto)    program remains active, tray icon is visible.
-nt  = (no Tray) disables tray icon output of messages.
-usb = (usb)     Mount only USB-Devices.
-rl = (Remove Letter) Removes empty volume drive Letter -> to Remove empty cardreader Letters which cause Explorer significantly slow down ;) (For more info: check following reply 11)

A standalone MounstorPE plugin available at Yomi http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=175

I get a pm asking support to MountStorPE,
hence opened current topic with a mini introduction

Here is part of pm:
Quote
Is it possible to tweak your script so that it is not plugged, "empty" letters removable-device CardReader (hide them if no memory card). It would be very convenient. For compatibility, you can enter new startup key, for example, -cr. This will avoid errors on "empty" drives (for example, in my system: two USB-Flash & 4-letters CardReader).
I hope very much for your responsiveness and look forward to an answer.

I contact Author of MountstorPE, Kare , asking if he can do something..

ps: Just a note, Kare is quite busy these days...

Today i found a bug in MountstorePE. Usually we need to open disk management and choose 'import foreign disk' to show Dynamic volumes in both PE and regular OS.Some Dynamic disks will be shown in the explorer without importing them.If Dynamic drives are auto mounted by Gena MSPE also assign drive letters to them regardless of the native mounting by Gena. This results in double mounting and you will see duplicate drive letters in Gena.My guess is that MSPE considers Dynamic volume as some kind of hidden partitions.

To solve this double mounting use MSPE with USB only parameter. To do this tick the option 'USB only' under MSPE section of removable devices script.

Hi anshad,

I merged topics

Kare informed me about emails..... ( I am rarely unofficial Enu translator of Kare (CD-RW)  )

There is 2 things, need to be seperated :
1) Boot with  Basic disk + Dynamic disks
2) Only Dynamic disks

For now, please make test with condition 1, (2nd later..... , let's fix first )
As pointed on Kare's last email, start mounstorpe-debug version After boot, with condition 1

Further post debug log and
your experience/info here
( which one goes to which, ex:  G: duplicated with I: )

See You

Hi Lancelot

Kare fixed Dynamic disk issue with version 1.1.4 of MSPE. I hope he will solve issues with GPT disk and Linux partitions (both shouldn't be assigned drive letters).

side note: Only dynamic disk will not be auto-mounted in PE. There should be a second basic disk to get dynamic volumes auto mounted. This is the default behavior of both Gena and Win7PE SE.I rarely deal with dynamic disks and that is the reason i am unaware of the double mounting issue. Anyway Kare is able to fix the problem quickly.

Good

I hope you make tests for both conditions I mentioned before, to verify same result

By Chance, I also had (figured out) recent, yet another trouble with MountStorPE (MSPE) ,
New version will be very nice with new features and fixes

MountStorPE updated to 1.5.0.0 , and also plugin

MounstorPE plugin available at Yomi http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=175
On Gena MounstorPE already embedded inside "\Drivers\4 Storage-->'Removable Devices Combo' "

New features:
+ bug with dynamic disks fixed (Thanks to anshad for reporting)
+ new -rl switch (Thanks to whom pm'ed me (Reply #1) 2 months ago)

Found bug:
-- bug found (MSPE do not analyze volumes cause system stuck) (untill fixed, StartUp not default on project)

More words:
***
-rl (Remove Letter) option created to remove letters of Empty CardReaders which cause explorer delay,
it is such a valuable option, I put seperate shortcut options with -rl switch.

After booting Gena with an empty cardreader, explorer works slow, and after MSPE -rl, back to fast explorer  :flying:

One known phenemon (to those familiar with mountvol.exe) rise:

IF "MSPE -rl" used, and an empty cardreader letter removed, than you put your card ;) , "MSPE" do not assign new letter.

Workaround: use something capable of assigning *different drive letter. ex: Active Partition Manager

don't worry much about that, -rl is really very good option

***
found bug:
Bug found with a friend's usb disk
a BADDD product, WD My Passport usb disk,
http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?level1=2&lang=en
it says supporting USB 3.0, USB 2.0
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/external/portable/
but what it does not say is,
support to USB 2.0 is possible only with WD_SES driver,
and without driver, USB disk works BUT VERRY slow... cause incredable delay with Disk Management (any utility)
(this delay also cause windows usb automount failure too  )

Well, when I buy a USB 3-2 capable disk, I expect it work on USB-2 mode without requiring any driver...
Liars Liars, everwhere...

Well, Disk Management utilities wait untill all disks analyzed, not causing any system failure

but MSPE do not have such mechanism, causing overall system failure (explorer stuck, you can not start applications)....

This is a rare (1/10000) case one can live, so low priority, besides MSPE removed from default startup until fixed one day

Hi Lancelot

I checked WD site and it looks like SES driver is common for all WD USB 3 devices. What about a script to add this driver to Gena?. Then we can use MSPE at startup  and it will be safe to plug WD Passport series products.

What about a script to add this driver to Gena?.

I tried, but not success, unlike most others, it was like working as a subdriver of ubstor.sys .....
If you can test, Here is driver (you can easly extract .msi with 7z)

Hi,
In Win10Pe
-a -ng is the same tick. So if I want it to run but not see the icon in the taskbar, what do I have to do?
I just want to select the -ng but being attached to the -a does not let me.
Regards
