Title: Is it possible to set the monitor resolution in Win10PESE ?
Post by: gbrao on October 31, 2015, 05:29:03 PM
The option to set resolution in the Main script seems to work OK.

After that I'm not able to change the resolution. Tried multires, set max resolution and even display settings in Win10PESE. None worked.

So far I used the PE only on my PC. I tried it on another PC today and noticed the problem,

What is your "Screen Resolution" setting on "Main Configuration" plugin on this PE... ?

Hi, sorry my internet connection was down.

In Main I set 1920x1080 then 1024x768. Same prob with both. Tried No Wallpaper & Custom Wallpaper.
I have enabled Basic Display Driver.

It seems to be a special rare case,

I had faced same before on real windows ;)
only once in my life

My Theory:
for some reason, gpu (or gpu driver) and monitor can not synchronize nicely,
windows can not auto adjust correct display on monitor...

Monitor: Samsung_932m_plus
GPU: Radeon 9200

My big suspect is monitor, since I changed monitor to different pc, same trouble continues...

Monitor: Samsung_932m_plus
GPU: Geforce 8400 GS

Sadly windows do not have built in setting to manually change this,
I had used "PowerStrip" at that time to fix this
   http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm

PowerStrip gives the settings windows don't

Well it seems since than, modern drivers don't have trouble for a while, maybe it is only driver you need to add your PE build..

There maybe other workarounds, I don't know, if you find let us know.  :great:

Need after downloading the Basic Display Driver, give the command:
Either set maximum resolution:
Pecmd.exe DISP

Restart Explorer:
Pecmd.exe Kill Explorer

I have been using the Original Display drivers. All checkboxes marked. No additional video drivers added. Main Configuration I have picked 1024x768.

I have seen a difference on UEFI/SecureBoot machines. If SecureBoot is disabled, the usbstick I create (Win10PESE x64) still has 2 options: to boot as Legacy or as SecureBoot.  On Lenovo desktop, you can set default as either Legacy or SecureBoot, or select the other at boot. On HP SecureBoot laptop it usually uses UEFI.

If I pick UEFI/SecureBoot, usually the highest resolution is selected for screen. Wallpaper fills the screen.

If I pick Legacy, usually ALWAYS uses 1024x768. I can change screen resolution by rightclicking desktop and choosing different one. BUT THE WALLPAPER LOOKS LIKE HIS PICTURE. Shrunken. The black areas of the screen are still functional, you can move the mouse there. But you cannot get the wallpaper to fill the higher resolution.

On an old HP laptop, non-UEFI, always boots in Legacy with 1024x768 even tho it has highest screen res of 1366x768. I can manually set it to 1366x768 but then again the wallpaper does not fill the screen, but the black areas are functional. Just cosmetic issue with wallpaper.

It seems to be just a cosmetic quirk with wallpaper for me.

I confirm Tony4219  :great: ,

remembering old test with Win8PESE x64 (or Win8.1 SE x64)  ,
secure boot get boot resolution different than normal boot ....
  (tested with boot from ufd)

well gbrao,
maybe you can test changing bios settings as suggested by Tony4219

:turtle:

edit: Tested with Asus Laptop

I use grub4dos to boot Windows & PEs and to boot Windows XP/7 from memory (<- love it). So I have to use legacy.

Hi gbrao,

I could find time to test (tested Win10PESE x64),
it seems there is a trouble of changing resolution on Win10PESE
as seen on your reply 2,
I can easily reproduce here by changing resolution on vmware (multires, Display Changer 12noon CMD --> both result your reply 2    )

While doing some testing today with Win10PE x64
Due to an Issue with Acronis snapman.sys with SecureBoot Enabled (Driver Signing Error) (Snapman.sys driver only loads if secureboot disabled)

The screen resolution is different with SecureBoot enabled vs SecureBoot disabled...
Beats me as to even why...

An idea: Compare "Display Adapter" on device manager

Idea behind: "SecureBoot" sounds like "Safe Mode"

... and when I do see the shrunken wallpaper, most of the time I can fill the screen if I do a Refresh. BUT, not until after PENetwork finishes its setup. Might have to wait half a minute.

If you have a UEFI PC - disable legacy Support in firmware..
Your screen resolution will be normal again...

Seems the PE media boots Legacy uefi (not sure how) instead of UEFI

At first I thought it was secureboot enable/disable - but with secureboot disabled > legacy support was enabled by default..
I had the option to disable secureboot and legacy support - I disabled both

the resolution in PE with only UEFI support is 1920-1080 (monitor default)
with legacy support enabled it is 1024-768

System information shows both as Bios Mode - UEFI

Why the difference - no idea..

Hi Tony,

after PENetwork, does
Code: [Select]
nircmd.exe sysrefresh
http://nircmd.nirsoft.net/sysrefresh.html

fix ?

Both show the same info - but at different resolutions

sorry devices manager could not help,

can you find a way to figure out "Display adapter" used ?

Some ideas:

+
maybe doubledriver !

+
maybe dc
\Downloads\AppYGS\Supplementary\Graphics\"Display Changer 12noon CMD"
Code: [Select]
dc64cmd -listmonitors
--> this also output "Adapter" side by side with Monitor ;)
+
\Downloads\AppYGS\System Tools\"HWInfo"
\Downloads\AppYGS\System Tools\HW Info\"HWInfo"
+
\Downloads\AppYGS\System Tools\HW Info\"GPU-Z"
+
\Downloads\AppYGS\System Tools\HW Info\"System Information Viewer (SIV)"
+
\Downloads\AppYGS\System Tools\ServiWin
Check Group - Video
ps: maybe better compare both Serviwin list ;)
...

or any other ideas you find ....
