I tried twice to prepare a Win7PE on Windows 8.1. In any case last time the problems were related to Wim and ImageX.

I see the issue was addressed here. Error messages at one point to me to add Vista and 8 files, maybe in the context of Gena's project which I partly added. I was asked to add the files, which I did. But in the end it didn't help.

I read that Wim 8 files may be better still. But do they work with Windows 7? That is technics way beyond my head.

Would it help to install WAIK 8.1 on my system and direct Win7PE to the installation directory? I hesitate to install WAIK for Win7 on Win8.1. Seems I had trouble with Framework here probably related to old router software. ... although yes, if that helps????

Recovery - Forensics - Repair - Context:

I would also appreciate recommendations for tools to add in the larger field of forensic, hardware (HD, memory), partition, file inspektion, changes. What exact program files of the Gena and Yomi project should I choose. I try it without anything of the projects added first. Maybe that caused my recent troubles.

Windows 7 x64 AMD double core ...

Background - startup issue:
I had a double boot Win 7 / Macrium professsional set up. The start up file corruption happened when suddenly while testing memory in the most thorough way possbly via the option in the recovery console. It seemed to hang and (don't quite remember how and why, I know the routine takes time) was "catapulted" into Macrium. Macrium offered me to mend something. And unfortunately after a tiny bit of hesitation I clicked yes and accepted. After that:

Windows could not start ... see above <windowsroot> \system\ntoskrul.exe missing or corrupt. But there seems to be more.

The larger context serious warnings in the eventreports, that were close to impossible to figure out via Windows. And yes, before that a blue screen event was involved too.

Hi BJS,

I just build Win7PE SE (source W7-SP1 x86 Ultimate - X17-59463) on my Win81x64 host,
All goes fine here

No you do not need any waik installed. (ps: I don't have )

There is no relation between building Win7PESE and Gena.

About tools to used on PE, like the ones on Gena and Yomi, it is all matter of taste,
we provide a set of tools as plugins which we like ready to be used by end user,
using or adding them to your builds do not cause anything.
   further is up to you.

Good luck on figuring out what is going on there, let us know when you figure out.

Thanks Lancelot. So it should work and I don't need to ponder what I could possibly have done wrong or missed to do first. ;)

Great tool. Maybe I start slowly with recommended option and move forwards from there.
